There is an abundance of invertebrate life throughout a city: every crack in weakened concrete manifests the living organisms and natural processes that are impossible to remove, despite humankind’s best efforts to sterilize the land. Research subjects for this work include pieces of found, dead, winged insects (casualties of vehicles and bicycles along roads and trails in Edmonton). Through dissections of specimens and interpretive drawing, these prints use pattern, repetition, structure, and the orderliness of insect society, to construct abstracted compositions that evoke architecture, blueprints, city maps, or other kinds of human constructions. Shown in 2016 at Christine Klassen Gallery, Calgary, Alberta.
